Eligibility	Couples are required by the Marriage Act of Ontario to obtain a marriage licence before a ceremony can be performed; the Act also requires that a member of the clergy, the Town Clerk or designate must be booked to perform the ceremony; two adults over the age of 18 must witness the ceremony and sign the marriage licence to validate it    Marriage licences are issued Mon-Fri 8:30 am-4 pm through the City Clerk's Office at the Markham Civic Centre
