Varley Art Gallery Docent Recruitment Program 
 
Job Description  
Docents conduct guided tours of the Varley Art Gallery for groups of students and adults. Utilizing the techniques of dialogue and inquiry, and storytelling, docents encourages students to explore their own creativity while learning about the various exhibitions at the Varley.  
 
Activities and Responsibilities  
Docents complete an Introductory Training Course, study selected readings and accompany other docents on guided tours to gain knowledge and skills in leading groups. Training sessions further develop knowledge on art, allow the docents to further acquire teaching skills, and to gain an understanding of the purpose of the Gallery and each exhibition.  
 
Qualifications 
Docents must be committed, enthusiastic, cheerful, willing to learn, and should have an interest in working with people, especially students. A background in education and/or art is an asset. 
 
Benefits  
The Varley Art Gallery docents have free access to all exhibitions, the Gallery library, book borrowing privileges, as well as selected exclusive talks and programming. Docents may also purchase Gallery Gift Shop items at a 10% discount.

Come and join our McMichael Docents and learn all about our fabulous art collection, lead exciting tours with adult or student groups and even instruct art studios! We have two Docent groups that you can choose from; weekend or weekday.  
Anyone can apply, we are looking for enthusiastic people who have a sincere interest in introducing children and adults to Canadian art and the McMichael collection.
Art Volunteer [ More info ]      
Purpose of Position  
Assist Southlake Regional Health Centre, located in Newmarket, Ontario, in creating and sustaining a patient-complementary and gallery worthy collection of artwork. The Art Gallery at Southlake exhibits and sells the works of York Region and south Simcoe County artists. Monies generated through the Gallery are used to maintain and purchase new items for Southlake’s corporate art collection.  
 
Duties: 
• Maintain a strong working knowledge of all items in the Hospital’s art collection and where each piece is hung, stored. 
• Make suggestions and gives advice on ways to make the art system more efficient.  
• Reinforce rules of art policy around Hospital and makes sure each department has art policy brochures on hand to give out to potential donors.
Doors Open One Day Volunteer [ More info ]   
Come and celebrate our 10th year with Doors Open! We will need volunteers to assist with this one day event. We will need volunteers to help with the QR Code Scavenger Hunt & ‘Look back at Doors Open WS’ 
displayed in the exhibit case outside the Library.
