Are you interested in fishing? We need volunteers to share the enthusiasm and skills of fishing by helping newcomers to the sport. Jump Rope for Heart School Ambasador [ More info  ]           
Our team is looking for reliable, energetic and committed volunteers to assist us with our school programs; Jump Rope/Hoops for Heart. Ideally, for this position we are looking for a volunteer who is able to commit 1 or 2 days a week for the duration of the school year who has a vehicle and is able to drive in York Region. Experience working in school is an asset!

Child Care Assistant [ More info  ]   
We are looking for a volunteer to provide support to the child care staff in their room as directed. Along with assisting in the general cleaning and maintenance of the room and equipment (including decorating and setup/cleanup. In this position we also require kitchen support and for you to help out with other duties as requested or as they match your talents. (ie. Teaching the children to dance, paint, try instruments, tutoring, etc.) 
 
We also need supports on field trips and special events.

Therapeutic Foster Family [ More info  ]           
Therapeutic Family Care (TFC) is a program where people open their homes to children and youth up to the age of 18. TFC families provide structure and support to children and youth who have emotional and behavior difficulties. Foster parents receive specialized training and coaching from members of a children's mental health team of professionals.  
 
You will provide basic care, supervision, encouragement and guidance to a child.  
 
Opportunities exist to provide care either full time or as a Relief parent ( 1 - 2 weekends per month)

Baseball Coach or Assistant Coach [ More info  ]   
Are you interested in being the coach or the assistant coach to a children's baseball team? Our baseball teams are for boys and girls from age 4 until 21 years old.

Council of Advisory Teens (C.A.T.S.) [ More info  ]   
The Council will meet once a month to work on projects that will help shape the programs and services offered to teens by the Newmarket Public Library. Projects could involve program suggestions and development, book displays, web site development, participation in community events, promotional material development, contests, and collection recommendations. This position is for 13 - 18 year old students. This program runs from October to June. Come out and have a say in your Library.

Reading Buddy Mentor [ More info  ]   
Reading Buddies provides one-on-one mentoring for children from grades 1-4 who would benefit from reading encouragement. Volunteers will spend one hour per week in Children's Services reading and doing language-based activities with their buddies. Volunteers must complete an application form, attend an interview, and submit a vulnerable sector screening form (reimbursable). Training will be provided for successful applicants.

Around the World Multicultural Event [ More info  ]   
Come and help out at our Around the World Multicultural Event assisting with set up/take down, stage performers, food vendors, crafts, parking, children’s activities, face painting, handing out flyers and more. Lunch will be provided for volunteers.

Good Beginnings Parent/Infant Support Volunteer Visitor [ More info  ]           
The Good Beginnings volunteer is needed to assist parents who are at home with a newborn baby or babies! You would provide emotional and/or practical assistance to families who have little or no support and may be feeling overwhelmed. You would not be expected to provide any medical care, housework or babysitting. This program is for families with newborns to 6 months old. 
 
Experience the joy and wonder of a newborn's early months, while helping a recent parent adjust to her unique and challenging new role.

Antique & Classic Car Show Volunteer [ More info  ]   
Need community service hours? Like older cars? Come help us at the 40th Annual Antique and Classic Car Show. We need help getting cars parked, serving food from the BBQ, operating children's games and just making the event run smoothly. 
 
New volunteers will need to attend a "Prep Rally" on Wednesday July 24, 2013 at the Museum at 7 p.m. More details provided after you've contacted us to express an interest. Refreshments provided. Additional training provided on site the day of.

We are looking for volunteers that are interested in developing a 1:1 relationship with a child (ages 6-13 years) under the supervision of a CAS worker, helping to help increase the child's trust and self esteem. The volunteer will go on community outings, do recreational activities & provide friendship, encouragement, support and guidance.

Driver - Escort Volunteers [ More info  ]           
Driver-Escorts drive children to and from appointments, meetings, foster homes, own homes, schools etc.They then accompany passengers to their destination. Drivers are responsible to physically escort, or visually ensure the child's safety in the care of a specified person authorized to accept the child.

Volunteer Tutors [ More info  ]           
Volunteer tutors are matched based on ability to work 1:1 with a child ages 6-18. You would meet with a child each week to assist/improve academic abilities. You will work with the child by helping them to implement and develop good study habits.

Youth Mentor [ More info  ]           
We are looking for volunteers that are interested in developing a close relationship with a youth (ages 14-18 years) under the supervision of a CAS worker. The volunteer would help increase the teen's trust and self esteem and provide encouragement, support and guidance. The volunteer would take the teen on outings and do recreational activities. The volunteer may work on goals such as resume writing, job search, research etc.

Crew Members [ More info  ]           
We are looking for members for our Scout Canada Rover Crew. The main focus of this group is to fund raise for the community and to assist the York Regional Police with fund raising initiatives. You will also participate in Child Seat Safety displays at local shopping malls working with our traffic unit. This is a partnership with Scouts Canada and York Regional Police.

Venture Company Crew [ More info  ]           
This co-ed group explores various aspects related to a career in the police and community services. It is operated in conjunction with Scout Canada with guest speakers, sports activities and service in the community.
