The Canadian Red Cross Society, a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world, is seeking an Emergency Response Team (ERT) Supervisor for Disaster Management (DM). Reporting to the ERT Site Manager, the ERT Supervisor will be responsible for various emergency shelter and reception centre response activities in addition to other responsibilities related to emergency preparedness. Job Summary: The Emergency Response Team (ERT) is activated for a response that exceeds Personal Disaster Assistance (PDA) Team capacity. Will organize and set up and manage a specific service during a response. Supervise the work of the responders. Disaster Response Activities: • Ensure compliance and provide ongoing feedback to ERT Responders during a response in compliance to the Technical Standards and the National Disaster Assistance Guidelines; • Assess resource requirements including HR and Logistics, ensuring the needs are highlighted to the ERT Site Manager • Organize and supervise the delivery of services as assigned; • Facilitate operational briefings and debriefings during a response; • Participate in operational debriefings and provide suggestions for improvement; • Participate in site coordination meetings, as well as debriefings with the Site Manager; • Manage inventory of emergency stock, • Coordinate with enabling services on set-up of the service; • Review schedule of volunteers to confirm adequate personnel is assigned at all times for the service; • Supervise volunteers to deliver the service assigned; • Maintain logs, statistics and financial documentation for use of service, as required; • Communicate, report on progress and evaluate the provision of the services, as appropriate to the ERT Site Manager; • Ensure completion of necessary paperwork (i.e. Goods and Services Vouchers, Registration & Inquiry cards, daily statistics, activity logs, etc.). • Participate in the recruitment of ERT Responders; • Participate in ERT team member orientation & scheduling of training; • Contribute to the completion and updating of supplier agreements, as needed; • Contribute to ensuring response supplies are properly stocked and available; • Update the response plan • Promote and ensure compliance with Red Cross directives and Technical Standards; • Manage response equipment. • Perform other duties, as required. Qualifications: The incumbent must have the commitment to the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross Movement and model the core competencies of the CRCS: team excellence, service excellence, accountability and results focused. • This position requires a satisfactory Canadian criminal record reference check and a satisfactory vulnerable sector check. Education and Experience: • Completion of College Diploma and/or an equivalent experience; • Minimum 1-3 years’ experience supervising a team; • Experience as ERT Responder or PDA Supervisor is an asset. Knowledge: • Understanding of Red Cross role in disaster response, relief and recovery, an asset • Language requirements vary - responders must be able to deliver services as appropriate • Customer service skills - provide comfort and care, patience in dealing with upset clients, active listening to understanding needs, finding a solution and good communication so client understands services available and how to obtain • Make informed decisions, able to problem solve, provide coaching and feedback to volunteers, support team environment • Communication skills - verbal and non-verbal cues, clearly able explain self and confirm understanding from client • Accuracy in completing forms, giving information, completing necessary paperwork • Ability to work well within a team - share information, be helpful, respectful, approachable, build strong relationships • Dependable - timely, take initiative and ownership of work, complete tasks without being asked or with little supervision
