Program staff in conjunction with volunteer mentors carry out lunch time or after school sessions throughout the school year for students ages 12 - 14 years. Mentoring sessions will be comprised of a variety of activities. Each session includes a healthy snack, structured group activity and informal time where youth and mentors can build their relationships through games, conversation, projects, shared experiences and field trips.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING? 
Using our highly interactive education programs you will aid students in developing necessary business and life skills, to enter tomorrow's workforce. Acting as a resource, facilitator, motivator and role model you will facilitate a Junior Achievement program in the classroom for a day. You and a colleague/friend can sign up together, we can match you with a partner, or you can volunteer on your own. We have multiple programs to choose from, depending on your interests and skills. 
 
The following elementary school programs are always in high demand. 
 
*More than Money (Grade 4) - (One School Day) 
This interactive program introduces students to 7 characters, each representing a different characteristic of how individuals approach money management. 
 
*Our Business World (Grade 5) - (One School Day) 
Introduces students to the opportunities and challenges of entrepreneurship in Canada. 
 
*Be Entrepreneurial Junior (Grade 6) - (One School Day) 
An interactive program where students gain an understanding of the important role entrepreneurship plays in the Canadian economy and what it takes to start your own business. 
 
*Dollars with Sense (Grade 7) - (One School Day) 
Provides students with the tools they need to make smart financial decisions, live debt-free and become savvy investors. 
 
*Economics for Success (Grade 8) - (One School Day) 
Students gain a stronger sense of who they are and how to use their strengths to succeed in the future.

WHEN DO YOU RECEIVE TRAINING? 
Volunteer training dates are available throughout the school year. During the on-line registration process, you can select a training date. 
 
Please note, training is held via teleconference. These training sessions last approximately one hour.

Good communication skills, facilitation experience is desired, but not required, personable, outgoing and enjoys working with adolescent learners.

The Leisure Buddy program matches campers with mild special needs to individuals interested in providing the necessary support ensuring successful recreation and leisure experiences. The volunteers are not required to provide support such as toileting or feeding, the support simply involves the volunteer acting as a friend for the camper. Volunteers are always supported by summer camp staff and directors and will never be left alone with their camper.
